I’d been thinking Isaac Asimov let me down with the book Foundation, but wow the story has just been taken up a notch.

I’ve been reading at bedtime, when my sleep is interrupted, and some mornings. Listening, I guess I should say, to the audiobook of the first science fiction novel in the Foundation series.

Chapters 1-4 felt a little bit slow, but now at this point in the plot, those chapters seem like necessary exposition. I’m being careful not to use the word climax to describe where I am in the story because I don’t know if this (Hardin being held hostage on a friendly trip) is the climax. It could easily be part of the climb.

I, Robot was on speed dial

I’m saying all that to say I’m excited about finishing this book again. There was a period I thought about bailing on Foundation then jumping to read I, Robot again. I f****n love that book. I still can’t believe Asimov released I, Robot in 1950!

I’m just blown away by the artificial intelligence systems and devices Asimov imagined. Also, the I, Robot book is a series of short stories, and, for my brain, that makes the details more memorable and digest-able — prepared exactly the way I like my sci-fi chowder.
