Raising the CRV Starting Price on Turo Following Clear Demand

Following the very fast first three bookings, I decided demand was high enough to boost the price per day rate of the CRV. I think there’s more value to my listing because of the mileage I offer.

I raised the price from $44 to $45. No, it’s not a major increase, but I’m experimenting. Of course, this whole Turo thing is an experiment.

Unlimited miles could be driving demand on the Turo listing

I think one thing that makes the CRV an appealing Turo listing is that I offer no limit on mileage. I noticed in other listings that mileage limits are added with a fee attached. For example, a Nissan Rogue in my area offers 1,250 miles free and a $0.35 per mile fee for each additional mile. Sounds high, but this is a business.

I haven’t found a reason to charge miles yet. Something that has always pissed me off about renting moving trucks was that you’re supposed to both return it with an equal level of gas AND also pay for miles driven. It’s always felt like a dick move to charge for both in addition to the rental fee.

I might experiment with adding a mileage limit in the future – maybe if I need to buy tires every 6 months or something like that. We’ll see what happens on that.

Covering car payments and more

I might’ve already mentioned this: these three bookings will earn enough after fees and discounts to cover the car payments of both the Clarity and CRV. That’s a breath of fresh air feeling. But…

Because the CRV needs an A/C service and new tires, I’ll be spending the money earned on these 3 trips on maintenance needs. I knew about the A/C service at the end of last summer and was quoted at $500+ by the local Honda service center for the fix. I’m making the call to prioritize the A/C over tires because of the time of year.
