The garbage truck could drive on a night shift schedule

I’ve never seen a garbage truck work the night shift. Seems like all upside: better weather, less sun exposure, less traffic.

Kind of feels like a no-brainer. I figured because there’s less traffic, drivers commuting are happier and the garbage truck drivers are happier. Also because there would be less traffic, the garbage truck will probably be able to complete his routes faster.

Am I missing anything?

And you can’t argue that the noise would be a problem. With the exception of emptying dumpsters, a garbage truck makes less noise than an Alabama teenager’s first fixer-upper S10 Chevy muffler. Eventually, they’ll be all electric anyway.

One could argue that some people like to be home for dinner, and that’s why you could still keep a dayshift. In my own experience with repetitive, thankless work there are always a handle of team members who are willing to work night shift. Heyck, you could even incentivize the night shift by paying them a little more.
