New Brakes for Maddalyn

Maddalyn. My daughter spelled her name in refrigerator magnets. Major win!

Last night, I bought the baby girl a set of hand brakes for her bike. At the moment, her bicycle still has training wheels, and it has the little lever and the gear that makes the pedal her only brake.

Bicycle brake kit set

She doesn’t know yet, but she’s going to help me install one of the handbrake kit for her back tire. She’s also going to start practicing riding without training wheels.

The way I taught my son was with skootering. I had him straddle the bike, put one foot on a pedal, then push off with the other foot. I had him do 20, then 30, then 50 until eventually he didn’t want to scoot anymore and started balancing himself on the bike.

For record, I did try the holding onto the bike seat, but that method quickly destroyed my back. So, I think Maddalyn will learn/catch on faster than Aiden did. She’s younger and her character is less cautious. That’s a polite way of saying she acts like she’s not scared of anything.

That reminds me: she could probably benefit from knee and elbow pads. But also, scars humanize us.😊
